27 August 2025 – AF Payments Inc. (AFPI) expressed its solidarity with the Department of Transportation (DOTr) and the Philippine National Policy Anti-Cybercrime Group (PNP-ACG) in intensifying efforts to curb the hoarding and reselling of beep™ cards for a higher price and the proliferation of fake beep™ merchandise in the market.
In a press conference held Tuesday, 26 August 2025, AFPI President and CEO Remigio “Jojo” Carpio Jr. joined DOTr Secretary Vince Dizon and PNP Anti-Cybercrime Director Brig. Gen. Bernard Yang in reporting the arrest of a suspect who was allegedly selling beep™ cards through a popular online marketplace and was the subject of a recent entrapment operation conducted by the PNP-ACG. The case against the illegal reseller who was charged in violation of Republic Act (RA) 8484 (Access Device Regulation Act) and RA 10175 (Cybercrime Prevention Act) has now been filed with the Pasig City Prosecutor’s Office.
Dizon declared, “[T]here would be others who will be arrested in the coming days [or] months…we are doing this not to shame people, but to send a clear message to our countrymen who are abusing and taking advantage of their fellow Filipinos who just want to buy beep™ cards.”
In a related development, AFPI CEO Carpio warned about the proliferation of fake beep™ merchandise, including the so-called beep™ charms that are being sold online for as much as P698.00 apiece. “The online sellers are now being creative,” Carpio said. “They have changed from cards to key chains. AFPI has not released any such product. We are simply the issuer of beep™ card at a price that the masses can afford.”
Carpio vowed AFPI’s continued support and cooperation in the intensified efforts by the DOTr and PNP-ACG in preventing these illegal activities, while monitoring and tracking the sale of fake items in order to protect the welfare of its consumers.
AFPI is requesting the public to report any suspected illegal activity involving the sale of beep™ cards and fake beep™ merchandise through unauthorized online platforms by calling its customer service hotlines: (02) 8737-9622, 0998-581-9675 (Smart), or 0917-512-1319 (Globe), or e-mail: customer.info@afpayments.com.
